Whether you want to quit alcohol completely, or just put the lid on some bad drinking habits, it helps to know you are not alone. Alcohol does not respect income or celebrity status, so here are some alcohol-free celebs: potential Oscar guests who can be guaranteed not to trip on the red carpet tonight! Toast the sober celebrities with a cheeky ginger beer at tonight’s Oscars with Club Soda.
1. Kirsten Dunst – treated for drink and drugs
News reports of Kirsten’s drunken nights out make us feel glad we are not celebs. To have all your highs and lows captured by the tabloid press is mortifying! Depression does not mix well with drink and drugs, and Kirsten had treatment for all of these in 2008.
2. Daniel Radcliffe changed his drinking
Changing your drinking is a marathon not a sprint. You will often reassess your relationship with alcohol when life changes, throws you a curve ball, or when your confidence is challenged. Daniel Radcliffe has been teetotal since 2010, but an unofficial biography claims he briefly relapsed into alcoholism while starring in the West End production of The Cripple of Inishmaan, when he felt like he wasn’t good enough. Daniel mate. You are!

4. Jennifer Lopez – no empty alcohol calories please!
It makes us break out in a sweat when we think about Jennifer Lopez’s exercise regime, so it’s no wonder that she is not into empty alcohol calories.
Her advice on tricky social situations? “Of course, during celebratory toasts, everybody’s like, ‘You can’t toast with water!’ So I’ll toast with alcohol and just take a sip.” (Though you can of course toast with water perfectly well!)
5. Simon Pegg – fit and off the sauce
We have a massive soft spot for Simon Pegg, as Club Soda founder Laura used to share the same pub. Now they are both off the sauce. Like lots of people he has worked out that cutting out alcohol can help you stay trim. “I find it easier to keep fit if I don’t drink”. What more do you need to know!
6. Samuel L Jackson – sticking to being sober for 20 years
The best is yet to come. For Samuel L Jackson getting sober 20 years ago significantly enhanced his acting abilities and lead to his best acting roles. So it’s never too late to give the booze the big heave-ho!
7. Tilda Swinton – in a starring alcoholic role
Fake it till you make it! Another teetotal actor who has played the role of an alcoholic on screen, In Julia. “I was concerned as to whether I could successfully stagger around being drunk. But once I started I realised I’ve been doing that for years because when my friends are drunk I pretend to be drunk.”
8. Ewan McGregor – gave up
Shot to fame with his role as a heroin addict in Trainspotting, Ewan McGregor gave up alcohol in 2001. “I don’t miss it for one minute, because you learn how to live your life without it.”

Jada Pinkett Smith has appeared in over 20 films, including The Matrix Reloaded and Madagascar. She has also been sober for many years: “I found myself drinking two bottles of wine on the couch and I said, ‘Jada, I think we’ve got a problem here.’”
