Scafell Pike Walk

Scafell Pike hike

Club Soda Member Simon is organising this walk up Scafell Pike.

The walk will be on Saturday 6th April and you can join for the day or hook up with other members who may stay the weekend to complete the walk. We will book somewhere to eat the Friday and Saturday evenings.

Start from Old Dungeon Ghyll Pub, Langdale at 8.30am

Travel:

Nearest train station is Windermere with a bus or taxi from Windemere into the lakes itself.

Accommodation:

You will need to arrange your own.

Accommodation in Langdale (closest), Elterwater and Ambleside, which is a large village with lots of accommodation options.

If staying in Ambleside you can get the 516 bus to the starting point which takes about 30 minutes. Once we know you are coming we can coordinate lifts!

Accommodation in LANGDALE: Old Dungeon Ghyll, New Dungeon Ghyll and Great Langdale Bunkhouse.

Accommodation in ELTERWATER: The Britannia Inn, Eltermere Inn and Elterwater Hostel

AMBLESIDE: lots of accommodation including YHA Ambleside on a budget to Highdale House.

The Walk

It’s classified as a hard walk and takes up to 8 hours in total, 5.5 miles to the ascent which is 3,400 ft. It’s on a par with Snowdon to climb and though not as high is considered at least as challenging if not more. If you are reasonably fit and up for a challenge you should be fine but you need the right clothing and footwear.

What you will need to pack:

Packed lunch and plenty of snacks required for the day. You will need to bring at least a litre of water.

Decent walking boots and clothing, including waterproofs and something warm (it is best to walk with more rather than less on a mountain hike). More instructions will be sent out.

…………………………..

Individuals attending the walk are responsible for ensuring they have the right walking equipment and the need to keep it in good condition at all times. I understand this completely and agree to follow it.
As a group, we will endeavour to promote safe practice on walks on all occasions, having regard to the conditions prevailing at any particular time. All group participants have a collective responsibility to ensure this happens. Those organising the event will explain the nature of every walk before it commences but participation is a personal decision.
